We’ve moved!

You may now check out the blog at www.foodtrippings.com :)

As Karla and I were walking towards the exit gate in the Greenhills Shopping Center, we encountered a Persian restaurant called Sofreh. Well I actually craved for something salty so we decided to have grab some bite before retiring the evening ( well actually it’s already past midnight ;) ). We ordered a beef shawarma, the most basic thing in Persian cuisine just to satisfy my craving. Well, guess what, it was the best shawarma we’ve ever tasted in this side of Metro Manila.

Our ratings:

Location: 5/5

It’s very accessible, it’s right beside the gate in the G Strip area in Greenhills ( it’s opposite Shell Ortigas Ave).

Ambiance: 4/5

There is a dining area inside and outside. The inside dining area makes you feel being in the game “Prince of Jaipur”. You would need to ‘indian sit’ in order to dine inside ( most likely you need to remove your shoes before sitting down, but you can wear your shoes going to your table). In the outside dining area, there are beds with carpets and throw pillows wherein you could just hang out, have some round of beers and puff some hookah ;) . While we were there, there were a group of foreigners ( I think they’re Greeks, not really sure about that) having some round of beers and enjoying the Persian music ( as in they were literally singing and dancing). It’s actually a cool place to drink some round of beers. Inside and out, it’s very cozy.

Price: 5/5

Well, Persian ingredients are not that cheap but their prices are not that high. Their beef shawarma is Php 75.00. Their food price range is Php 55.00-Php 195.00. So I think their prices are well justified.

Cucina, as the name itself implies, is a Spanish word however we also have that term ( it’s spelled in Filipino as kusina) which means kitchen. Probably the branding is for us to know that their cuisine is a mixture of Spanish and Filipino. It is located at the Food Choices in Glorietta 4.

We decided to have the promo meals: 2 viands + rice. I chose eggplant seafood tortilla ( in other words, it’s tortang talong ;) with seafood filling) and lengua with mushroom sauce. The torta was half of the whole tortang talong. I can taste the seafood though I am just not sure what type of seafood was in it. It was ok, it was nothing really extraordinary about it. On the other hand, the lengua with mushroom sauce was also ok.

Overall rating of the food: hmm 3/5 stars. I could recommend this for people who would like to eat Spanish-Filipino food who are on the tight budget. Their promo meals are priced as Php 129.00 ( 2 viands+ rice) and Php 149.00 ( 2 viands+ rice+ drink). As for the proportion of the food,it was fulfilling :) .

I spent my birthday dinner in Banana Leaf in Greenbelt 3. I don’t know, I just miss eating there. I just loved the ambiance and the food there so the food that we ordered were the “must tries” in Banana Leaf.

We ordered Roti Canai as an appetizer. I can probably say that’s it’s like crepe but it’s much thinner. The curry sauce adds to the flavor that really gives you a headstart on what to look forward in the Banana Leaf experience.

For our main course, we ordered 2 entrees: Chicken Curry and a pork dish ( our apologies, we forgot to take note of the name of the dish). The Chicken Curry was a bit spicy which really is the best Chicken Curry we’ve tasted ever. It doesn’t really look good in the food presentation but it gets its redeeming value in the taste. Super yummy! It’s really best to pair it with white rice. As for the pork dish, it’s really good because I can taste different mixtures of spices which I really couldn’t determine what. It’s thinly sliced and I believe it was roasted. It also has a sauce where you could dip it, the sauce tastes a bit sour but that is the right match for it.

These are my ratings for the whole Banana Leaf experience:

Ambiance: 4/5 stars

- The lighting is good, it’s not really that dark and it’s not too bright. They actually have a yellow light and they have mirrors as their walls just to make the place look bigger. You can really feel the Singaporean feeling because they use the actual banana leaves for diners to use instead of plates.

Food: 5/5

- need I say more? ;)

Price: 4/5
- the place is a bit pricey but like I said earlier the redeeming factor is the quality of food. Chicken Curry Php 200+, Roti Canai Php 78.00 and Pork dish Php 200.00 +. Spent Php 668.00 for those 3 dishes, plus 2 cups rice ( and tax too ;) ) There isn’t much Singaporean restaurants around right? So that’s fine.

Cleanliness: 5/5

- The place looks neat and organized.

Very Sinful

Double Chocolate Fudgy Brownie at Friday’s consists of three towers of brownies topped with vanilla ice cream, peanuts (pecan), and chocolate and caramel syrup. This is certainly the best dessert that I’ve eaten and if you haven’t tried this yet, you are certainly missing half of your life. This dessert though is not recommended for people suffering under diabetes. :D Continue reading ‘Double Chocolate Fudgy Brownie at Friday’s’

I love the way you smell as I pass by your store.

I love the way you flash the red sign as if seducing me to grab you.

I love watching you being glazed at your window pane. Continue reading ‘My pledge of love for Original Glazed Krispy Kreme donuts’

Sumo Remix

10Feb08

I believe everyone’s familiar with Tokyo Tokyo, a Japanese fastfood chain. Tokyo Tokyo is famous with their Sumo Meals, their promo meal in which 2 people could share a meal for an affordable price of Php 129.00. They now added another variation of the Sumo meal which is the Sumo Remix meal. Instead of 1 viand+ vegetable stir fry+2 bottomless rice+ 2 red iced teas, they now have 2 viands for this ( of course the vegetable stir fry, bottomless rice and 2 red iced teas are still included) one and of course the red iced tea is still present. Sumo Remix is priced at Php 179.00 and 199.00. We tried the one that was priced at Php 179.00, this includes beef misono and shrimp and vegetable tempura as the viands.

If you’re with someone and on tight budget and would like to have some basic Japanese food, try ordering the Sumo Remix Meal and you’ll surely get your stomach full.
